[Issue #2] Holiday Leftovers, Donald Trump Jr, and Intermittent Fasting
How much of your Christmas dinner did you throw away?
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to my amazing community!
I hope that you’re getting a much-deserved break. Between family holiday prep and my wife owning a retail business, the last few months have been a marathon. This week we got away to our cabin a southern Missouri and it’s glorious. We’ve been playing endless board games, building lego sets, and I cracked open a book that I’d not had time to read. Right now, I’m reading “The Cult of We: WeWork, Adam Neumann, and the Great Startup Delusion” by Eliot Brown and Maureen Farrell. It’s great!
I hope you enjoy this week’s links…
Articles:
The Verge: Fight climate change by eating your leftovers this holiday season - I've been thinking a lot about climate change and the role we can play in reducing the warming of the planet. Our family had an EPIC meal on Christmas day. I didn't realize how much food waste contributes to methane gasses in the atmosphere. This article was eye-opening. If you want to dig into this topic more, check out the episode of the Dave Chang Show with John Doerr as a special guest.
The Atlantic: The Gospel of Donald Trump Jr. - I considered myself a member of the Republican party until Donald Trump became the presumptive GOP nominee for President in 2016. Part of what drove me to set my membership card on fire was abandoning Christian morality, like "love your neighbor as yourself" in favor of grabbing power at all costs. Seeing so many members of evangelical Christianity embrace the Gospel of Trump is genuinely appalling.
Apps:
Zero Fasting App - Created by Big Sky Health and serial entrepreneur/investor Kevin Rose, Zero is at a fundamental level a fasting timer. You set how long you want to go without eating, and it'll tell you how long you've gone, what's happening in your body during the fast, and correlate your fasting stats with other health stats tracked on your phone. I've been using the app for a few years now. Beyond providing constraints on eating (which helps with a calorie deficit), I've found that it considerably improves my sleep.
Podcasts:
MSNBC: American Radical - This podcast follows the radicalization by the far right of Georgia woman Rosanne Boyland and how it led to her death at the Capitol Insurrection on January 6th. It's well-produced 5 episode series that demonstrates how misinformation can poison someone's mind and lead to their demise.
